xCatalyst Enhances The Houston SPCA's Web Presence
ESX, Inc., a leading software development and IT solutions provider, today launched a new website it developed for the Houston Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). ESX, Inc., as a donation to support the non-profit organization, provided an entirely new site including creative design and the technology platform used for content management.
The Houston SPCA, founded in 1924, is Houston's first and largest animal protection organization and shelter. The Houston SPCA, a private, non-profit charity which receives no funding from the government, United Way, or any national animal groups, promotes respect for all animals and protects them from suffering and abuse.
Updating their website and utilizing it more effectively in order to increase traffic, improve communications with the community, and implementing timely updates were among the Houston SPCA's goals this year.
ESX, Inc., a local technology solution provider, developed the new Houston SPCA site using the Community module of the xCatalyst Platform. xCatalyst is a powerful web-based content management tool for building and managing websites, and includes built-in community and E-Commerce features.
As a non-profit organization, the Houston SPCA has to rely on their more than 400 dedicated volunteers to help with the day-to-day duties of running the organization. One of these duties includes the management and updating of their website. Using xCatalyst, the Houston SPCA will be able to easily delegate control of specific sections, or pages of the site, to volunteers. These volunteers can easily update the content of those pages using a browser.
The Houston SPCA feels that by keeping the site up-to-date with current information, and including these new features, it will bring more traffic to the site, and in turn, lead to more pet adoptions and community support. "In the event the public cannot visit the shelter in order to see the animals, buy products, get information, and make donations, the Internet gives us an opportunity to make these services available online," said Patricia E. Mercer, executive director of the Houston SPCA.
"ESX, Inc. was pleased to support the Houston SPCA with this project," said Steve Spar, CEO of ESX, Inc. "Our passion and belief in the Houston SPCA's mission prompted us to provide these services."
